ELA Teachers at Durfee Using Glogster For Huck Finn Project

Durfee teachers, Liz Dunn, Tanya Bernier, Ken Kvit and Sterling Bryant have enhanced their Pre-AP English classes with this Web 2.0 activity. In conjunction with reading The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, students are creating Glogs on an episodic basis, to trace and map Huck Finn's journey with an eye to the “river of life” metaphor for Huck. Using a map of the Mississippi River, the final project for The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, is to create a Glog, which details Huck’s Journey along the Mississippi River.  The Glogs incorporate the following elements:

1. Main Map Glog - This is the journey along the Mississippi River which shows geographical map markers and representative quotes for each chunk of text, or episode.
2. Individual Episode Glogs - These glogs encompass important points within each chunk of reading students are completing. Elements include major characters, setting, tracking of author's purpose through the actions of the main character, Huck Finn, as well as essential or thematic questions that Mark Twain seems to be asking the reader.
3. Research Glogs - Research on two topics about some element of the story. This list includes, the Mississppi River, Slavery before the Civil War, The Underground Railroad or Mark Twain and his life.
